Under the radar!
Whilst most of the UK aircraft preservation movement has been focused on the start of the Nimrod disposal programme, Newark Air Museum’s latest exhibit has until now quietly slipped under the radar; so much so on Friday 23 April 2010 Jaguar GR.1 cockpit XX753 (9087M) made the short journey from Bottesford (Normanton Airfield), across to Newark.
Formerly used as a trailer mounted Marketing & Recruitment Unit exhibit by the RAF Exhibition Flight, this magnificently finished example of the Anglo French Tactical Strike Fighter has now found a permanent home at Newark Air Museum, on the Winthorpe Showground in eastern Nottinghamshire
Delivered just hours before the start of the Tribute to the V-Force event the cockpit will eventually be placed on under cover display at the museum, where the public will hopefully have access to it.
“A fast jet cockpit has been an acquisition target for many years and this one will help illustrate the recruitment phase of RAF Training .” commented Museum Acquisition Officer, David Hibbert, he continued. “With this latest arrival and the recent operational return of the Argosy Procedures Trainer, our team of volunteer cockpit openers have some interesting ‘new’ exhibits to show to the public.” He concluded, “We are very excited by this arrival and as one of our volunteers was heard to remark as the cockpit arrived, yes it will be on display at Cockpit-Fest in June!”
