Summer family events at Cosford
Does the thought of entertaining the children over a long school break fill you with dread? Are you scratching your head wondering how you are going to entertain your little darlings when the household budget is being stretched to the max? If so, why not give them a day out at the Royal Air Force Museum, Cosford?
With tight budgets in mind, the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford has created a range of fun activities for August, to get families working together and participation is just £1.00. Each week day will have an exciting activity dedicated to it, with a drawing competition running at weekends and Bank Holiday Monday, where participants stand a chance of winning a £15 voucher to spend in the Royal Air Force Museum Shop.
Mondays is a chance for “Mothers and Daughters” to make a " favourite" toy for girls in the 1940's, the Peg Doll, using scraps of materials and ribbons. On Tuesdays the entire family can learn about the art of camouflage by making masks that will blend into any background. Wednesdays are “Dads and Sons” day where they can team up to make and colour in their own paper gliders and parachutes. Whilst on Thursdays the entire family is invited to decorate aircraft shaped cookies using different coloured icing before taking them home to eat. Finally, Fridays are fun filled space days when children of all ages, including Dads (well Dads never really grow up!), can make their own space rocket from recycled plastic and cardboard.
Sessions run from 10.30am – 12.30pm and 1.30pm – 3.30pm each week day and all materials will be supplied by the Museum. Better yet as a reward for their efforts everyone is welcome take their rockets, masks, gliders, parachutes, dolls and cookies home to keep as a memento of a great family day out.
This award-winning Museum offers free admission and is located only 3 minutes from Junction 3 of the M54. Not only is it chocked full to bursting with famous aircraft such as the Royal Air Force’s mesmerizing Valiant, Victor and Vulcan, the Museum also offers youngsters entertaining free interactive areas such as “fun and flight” where they can learn about the principles of flight, as well as exterior picnic areas where the entire family can enjoy an alfresco lunch.
