Dreams of Flying caught on film

The Royal Air Force Museum Cosford is to be the first UK venue to host, Dreams of Flying, a short film, to be screened in the Temporary Exhibition Gallery, in the Museum’s Hangar 1.

The film, created by Michelle Atherton, combines footage of the artist taking a flight in a MiG29, with a commentary exploring what dreams are played out through taking a pleasure ride in a military jet fighter. Underlying the film is the thought that the idea of flying in the MiG fighter evokes that ancient almost primal human desire to fly, reformulated in the 21st Century through military technology and entertainment.

Dreams of Flying, has been developed out of a research project funded by Arts and Humanities Research Council and Sheffield Hallam University. The aim of the film was to investigate what is considered, or at least marketed as, one of the ultimate thrilling experiences of the 21st Century: taking a ride in a fourth generation military jet fighter.

Twenty years ago such a film would have been impossible, unthinkable, even. Michelle Atherton's achievement is the Museum's gain and shows how much the world has changed in a short space of time”.

Entrance to the Museum and to view the film is FREE. There is also FREE onsite parking.
