Eurofighter Typhoon arrives at Duxford
Eurofighter Typhoon DA4 (ZH590), gifted to Imperial War Museum Duxford by the Ministry of Defence in 2008, has now arrived at Duxford for re-assembly and conservation work, in preparation for its unveiling as part of the IWM Duxford collection during the summer.
The RAF's Recovery Team carefully disassembled the aircraft in-situ at RAF Coningsby and transported the aircraft to Duxford, where personnel from RAF Coningsby will work with Imperial War Museum Duxford's Conservation Department to reassemble the cockpit and instrumentation, manufacture and install replica engine cowlings, drain down fluids, remove any harmful substances and carry out protective work to preserve internal surfaces and mechanisms.
The Typhoon is the RAF's newest front-line fighter and replaces the Tornado, an example of which Imperial War Museum Duxford already has on display in AirSpace. The DA4 (Development Aircraft number 4) was the first British twin-seat Eurofighter Typhoon. The gifting of the DA4 to Imperial War Museum Duxford enables the museum to further develop the narrative of technological innovation in military aircraft that is already told throughout the museum.
