20 Years On - The Fall of the Berlin Wall

The 9th November 2009, marks the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.  The RAF Museum Cosford will be marking this with a special weekend event for families on 14th and 15th November 2009.  Visitors will be invited to take part in our special graffiti workshop where they will have the opportunity to create personalised slogans and artwork to decorate a custom-built wall.

All artwork will be displayed along side a genuine section of the original wall currently in the National Cold War Exhibition.  Construction of the Berlin Wall began in August 1961 and on completion, it was over 96 miles in length.  Its aim was to prevent movement from East Berlin to West Berlin and on 9th November 1989, the East German government decided to allow East Berliners to cross the border.

The museum is working in partnership with Hedz, a creative arts and design company from Birmingham. Following the weekend event the Hedz team will take the designs and incorporate them into a new piece of graffiti art to commemorate this significant anniversary.  It will then be placed on display within the National Cold War Exhibition.

Workshops are available both days at 11.00, 12.00 and 14.00 and participation is free of charge.   For advance booking or further information, please contact the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford on 01902 376200 or visit www.rafmuseum.org
